According to UNWTO, tourism is one of the world’s major economic sectors. It is the third-largest export category and in 2019 accounted for 7% of global trade.

Sustainable tourism is essential to the world and promoted. It is a way of travelling that can make economic benefit to people and communities while respecting their culture and environment.

However, the global outbreak of the COVID-19 virus is making sustainable tourism unsustainable. The pandemic is having a significant impact on both domestic and international travel. UNWTO has indicated international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) declined 70% in January-August 2020 over the same period of last year. Consequently, SMEs which shoulder 80 % of global tourism are among the most affected and vulnerable. The outlook for tourism industry recovery remains highly uncertain, as the pandemic continues to hit the sector in many countries heavily.

After the success of the 1st TOURIST conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2019 and the 2nd TOURIST conference held in Bangkok in 2020, the 3rd TOURIST Conference will be held once again in Bangkok from 3rd-4th February 2021 and hosted by the Faculty of Business Administration, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand.

The goal of the 3rd TOURIST conference is to provide a lively and informal platform where a variety of questions and ideas regarding sustainable tourism, the effects and problems of the Covid-19 pandemic on sustainable tourism, and the creative solutions for tourism industry recovery can be presented and discussed by academics and other professionals in an interdisciplinary and inspiring environment.

The conference, therefore, seeks stimulating papers that will contribute to recover and rebuild the tourism industry in the uncertain world. We welcome Conceptual, analytical and empirical papers as well as case studies. Free registration.

"Participation and paper presentation can be on-site or online".
